Aurore Gros Coissy retried on appeal for drug trafficking




Aurore Gros Coissy, a native of Lyon, behind bars in Mauritius since August 2011 for illegal import of Subutex and has been sentenced January 30, 2015 by the Mauritian justice to a term of 20 years in prison will be retried on appeal on October 29 next at the Supreme Court.

In this appeal, Aurore Gros Coissy 27 years at the time of the conviction will be defended by one of the tenors of the bar of the island, Mr. Rama Valayden.

As a reminder, Aurore Gros Coissy had been arrested at her descent of plane in Plaisance on August 19 2011, officers from the drug squad, with 1,673 tablets of Subutex - listed as a hard drug on the island - concealed inside a packet of biscuits.

Since then the young woman from her prison cell, has always maintained her innocence, denouncing a plot by her former Mauritian boyfriend and who would have given her the package as a simple gift. The mother of her ex-boyfriend was also sentenced in this case to a term of 20 years of imprisonment.
