Andry Rajoelina "I prefer to sacrifice myself, rather than sacrificing the 22 million Malagasy"

Andry Rajoelina "I prefer to sacrifice myself, rather than sacrificing the 22 million Malagasy"
The President of the Transition, Andry Rajoelina, has decided to not run for Presidency of Madagascar on Tuesday night during a televised speech.

At the microphone of France Radio International, Andry Rajoelina has explained his renunciation of the supreme leadership of his country, specifying however that no outside pressure has dictated his choice.

"I protected the Malagasy sovereignty. It is really important for us to have a freedom to choose, freedom to decide. And during the transition, we were able to prove that we can build and we can manage, even if the international community has suspended aid to Madagascar. So the decision of the European Union has not at all influenced my decision, reflecting the proposal that I made at the last meeting in the Seychelles", argued Andry Rajoelina.

He had already expressed on May 12, 2012 as part of an official release heading that he will not run for the presidential elections. According to Andry Rajoelina, his choice today is as respect of the given words given to the Malagasy people.

"I fulfilled the conditions to be a candidate. But many of our supporters and a majority of the Malagasy people know that today, if an election takes place in Madagascar, I will be elected. But what is important is not to be elected. It is, as a man of State, to keep his word given on May 12, 2010, and also to make a decision for the welfare of the population. I'd rather sacrifice myself rather than sacrificing twenty-two millions of Malagasy", also stated the president of the Transition.
