21 people died from overdoses within 18 months




According to recent official statistics made public at the National Assembly, 21 people died in Mauritius after an overdose from January 2014 to June 2015. Some of the victims took synthetic drugs. The average age of these consumers was 41.

Furthermore from October 2013 to August 27, 2015, 79 individuals have been arrested by the police's drug squad.
 
In 2012 a report by the International Narcotics Control Board, dependent on the United Nations, pointing the figure at Mauritius, as the leading consumer of hard drugs in Africa.
